The first video I watched in this assignment was Physical Therapy because I plan to pursue a career in Sports Physical Therapy. Watching this video was very helpful since I had a lot of doubts on whether I should continue with this career or even what was the PT program here like at ETSU. B Owens, physical therapist in Johnson City, current assistant chair and assistant professor at ETSU was the speaker of this video. She has been practicing as a Physical therapist for 21 years and teaching for 5 years. According to Owens, “she chose this profession because of the relationships made between patients, making differences in their lives, and helping the patients. As a career, she chose it because of the versatility, being able to work in many different settings and diverse practices in the physical therapy …show more content…
After completing the prerequisites courses needed, an application must be completed to the PT of your choice. A person applying to PT school should have some experience in physical therapy because it is very beneficial to spend time in a clinic to know if pursuing a career in PT is the right fit. Then an interview will happen, a person should have good speaking skills and conversations. The PT program at ETSU is 3 years, 5 days a week, and 6 to 8 hours a day in class. The 1st year involves more coursework on the basic sciences than clinical work. The 2nd year looks at specific types of physical therapy and the 3rd year involves clinical time and administration classes. After your 3 years, a person should be able to graduate and become accredited with the American Physical Therapy Association and be eligible for the licensure exam. Some potential career options post-graduation include outpatient clinics, hospitals, nursing care facilities, armed services, and sport
