Personal Narrative: A Career In My Writing

Although I am only a thirteen-year-old, there are about three whole things that some people may not know about me. First of all, my favorite hobby, among others, is playing video games. Unlike many people who play console, mobile, or PC games, I enjoy using tactics and strategy. Most gamers in today's gaming society enjoy holding the trigger or mouse button and spraying bullets back and forth until they can get a kill. However, when I play online games such as Battlefield or Medal of Honor, I like to use tactics and sneak up on my enemy. The next fact that some may not know about me is that I do not only enjoy writing at school when it is required. This may seem a bit surprising considering I am only thirteen; however, I do enjoy writing …show more content…
Among many types of writing, I enjoy writing fictional pieces that create imagery in the minds of the readers and requires some creativity to write successfully. This is my favorite type of writing because I feel like it is the type of writing that people should read more of to relax after work or school; unlike informational writing, creative writing takes the reader out of the daily work routine and places them in an imaginary scenario. The final and quite possibly most interesting fact that nobody probably knows about me, concerns my pets. I know what the reader may be thinking: “What could possibly be interesting about pets? Everyone writes about pets!” But aside from those dark thoughts, I assure my readers that this will not be the average “pet talk.” To begin, I have a nice, enormous, hairy turtle. That's because he is not a turtle at all. Now, this may sound crazy, but this “Turtle” is actually a tarantula whom I haven’t exactly named yet. Long story short, I brought him to school last year and the girls didn't want to see him so I said that he was a turtle so that they would come catch a glimpse. Afterward I jokingly called him turtle and haven’t renamed him officially. Anyways… My next pet is a Western Box tortoise that is roughly three years

“Writing is an exploration”. Famous American novelist, Edgar Lawrence Doctorow once said that “A person can start from nothing but learn as he goes.” Focusing on this idea, it is possible to say that writing is a skill to put ideas on a piece of paper and not be afraid if one does not like writing. Even the greatest writers like Shakespeare, James Joyce, and others might not have thought that their writing was exceptional at the beginning; but they had to start somewhere, from scratch, and later on, let their work do the talking. I use these examples in order to prove my main idea which is: learning how to write effectively does not just happen in a day or a night; it takes a considerable amount of time with a lot of coverage, focus, and determination.…

Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

I have worked in the publishing industry in and around New York City – though not as a writer.…

As far back as I can remember, I've struggled to discover my one true passion. Growing up, I was surrounded by people who knew what their purpose was: my mother with her teaching, my father with his art, my grandmother with her altruism. Not knowing my aim only motivated me to find it, and from a young age, I've explored everything. I've contemplated careers from toxicology to novelist, park ranger to senator. Due to some phenomenal teachers and continuous self exploration, during my high school years I have finally discovered my niche- learning.…

At first I wanted to be a writer, and along with most people my age, I had stories I wanted to tell. I felt that writing was the best way to move those stories into the real world, but as I went through school, I realized that I did not have enough skill as a writer to maintain a living off of these stories hence I decided to move into a career path that suited my way of thinking. That was when I began to teach myself how to code instead. All I had to begin with was my phone, so I found apps that taught basic coding ideas. While I used to think I had no meaning in life programming gave me goals to feel accomplished with which helped with these feelings.…
