Personal Narrative: A Career In My High School Career

Improved Essays
In my high school career, I have been terrible with grades in my freshman year. I slowly but surely started to pick them up, but I was not the smartest in school. I was a slow learner, didn’t really catch the material as fast as everybody else. That was a disadvantage for me because I was making up some classes while I had to handle my regular A-G classes. I can honestly say it was probably one of the most difficult times in high school. That was around the time where I wasn’t really interested in college because I thought it wasn’t for me. My junior year I realize that I wanted to do better in school and get into a university. I felt a drastic change from being an average student in my family that only gets a high school diploma to a really motivated student that wants to get a college degree. I started taking school much more seriously than I did before this change. I am extremely proud of the grades that I made up and up to now, I am still going to make up some classes. …show more content…
Improving my grades showed that I was gonna keep them up or just do better. It was also important to me because I would never visualize that I would have some pretty good grades on my transcript, not to mention that I took a political science class over the summer at El Camino College in Compton. I am now ahead in high school and college. I comprehend it is also important because I heard that schools look for those kinds of details in students, but that might be a rumor I am not to sure. In my opinion, it makes it look like I can already handle a college

I work very hard in order to maintain noteable grades, but still allow myself a balance between academics and life outside of school. In spite of the challenging courses I take in school, I manage to excel in the majority of them. I do this by taking the time to meet with teachers outside of class and setting up a meeting if I feel I do not thoroughly understand the material. I find education very important as you have it for the rest of your life and no one can take it away from you. Because of this, I don’t go through my classes and schoolwork just to get good grades, but instead to truly learn the material and expand my knowledge.…

It could make the difference in someone getting into nursing school, medical school, or graduate school. It could help an admissions committee be able to choose between two almost identical, and qualified candidates. It makes even more of a difference when, because of grade inflation, it allows someone to barely pass a class. Grade inflation can push someone from a 69.5, which is failing, to a 70, which means you passed the class. Those people are going to pass the class and possibly receive a degree that they did not earn.…

At the moment what I really need to do is as simple as focusing on the here and now; I need to make sure that I continue to put hard work into everything I do. To start with, I need to maintain my grades, I’ve had a 4.0 grade point average since middle school and in order to get into a good college I need to maintain that. In addition, I also need to keep up with my extracurricular activities; by joining clubs, volunteering, and doing other activities outside of school, I’m able to create a solid resume for myself. Finally, I need to make sure to work to get scholarships, and other forms of financial aid to gain the support I would need to pay for college. My goals are a bit out of my reach at the moment, but I’m sure…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I was deciding on which high school I wanted to attend; I chose to go to public school, even though I had previously gone to private school. The next step to achieving better grades is to recognize school as a first priority. The reason why this is so important is because if you make school a priority, getting grades will be easy because you will care about school and want to achieve good grades. Some people would say that extracurricular activities are important. However, school is a priority and after school activities are not. If a person plays soccer, hockey, basketball, football, or are a dancer school is still a priority.…
