Personal Narrative: A Career In My Clinical Setting

My clinical setting recognizes the importance of providing opportunities for employees to grow professionally. There are many resources committed to the ongoing professional development of nurses. Nurses who are interested in continuing education may be eligible for tuition reimbursement of $2000 per semester. In order to be qualified, employees must regularly be scheduled to work 32 hours or more, attend an accredited college and earn satisfactory grades for the courses. On top of the tuition reimbursement, there is also education money of $700 a year. In addition, nurses get certification bonus of $350 a year for having their nursing certificates. Lastly, there are educational programs such as motivational interview and integrative health and practice at a charge for employees. There is a paid, ten week, summer nurse internship program at my clinical site. This internship program is available to baccalaureate nursing students who are entering their senior year. This program offers an opportunity for students to work with a preceptor to gain clinical experience and build confidence in patient care. There are preceptor classes offer to nurses who are interested in becoming preceptors. Preceptors are involved in orienting new nurses as well as teaching and mentoring nursing students. Nurses can advance their career by becoming charge nurses through charge nurse classes. There are also opportunities to take on other nursing roles beside the role of a bedside nurse. With resources such as tuition reimbursement and education money made available to nurses, nurses can advance their careers by getting their master’s degrees to become nurse managers and nurse supervisors. Nurse managers and nurse supervisors take parts in working with nursing staff and other disciplines in the hospital to ensure that patients receive safe, timely, and efficient
