College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…
“Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence” -Colin Powell. I will never forget when I was awarded one of the two “Most Outstanding Musician” awards when I was a 7th grader at Neil Armstrong Middle School.…

Growing up thinking about a career I wanted to pursue was difficult. It varied from a tattoo artist all the way to where I am now with nursing being my main focus. It wasn’t until recently over the past three years when I realized this. Since my sophomore year I have managed for one of my high school sports. My sophomore and junior years I managed for volleyball.…
The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…
Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Two of these careers involve quantitative thinking and mathematical skills, while the third career involves enforcing laws and regulations and working outdoors. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…
Different moments of our lives change us and shape us into the man or woman whom one day we will become. One moment that changed me was when I got my first instrument. Getting my first instrument was exciting, yet challenging at the same time. When I told my mom that I wanted to start playing music, I didn’t realize how hard it can truly be. I didn’t think of how much patience and time I would need to put into my practicing.…
I was waiting for the match ahead of me to be over. I hear the loud whistle come from the match and I walk over to the head table to check in. Butterflies were flying around my stomach. The people at the table hand me my band and I jog over to my coach, and see my opponent, the state champ. I put my green band on as my coach says “All you have to do is win the match and we win the duel.”…
Mozart is often referred to as the greatest classical pianist of all time. As mentioned before, at five years old he playing piano better than many grown men. Beethoven also achieved virtuosity on the piano but it took him until about his early 20’s to start getting recognition.…
For many people which career they want to attend college to work towards comes pretty naturally like teaching has always been their passion or they’ve always loved the feeling of being in a kitchen. For me however what I wanted to do as a career and attend college for didn’t come as naturally. I explored many ideas like becoming a chef. But I soon found out that I could burn water and therefore cooking wasn’t exactly my strong suit. After many failed attempts at finding a career that would be a good fit for me I started a mission to find out what exactly I wanted to be.…
The Journey of Elton John The people are shocked that the amazing singer is a homosexual, and that he asked to sing with a homophobic. He even has taken a decade off with only producing 1 album each year. John has made his main part in life of helping people with AIDS (Schlesinger, 2008). The journey of Elton John is identified by his outrageous style of clothes, controlling his very own AIDS foundation, having the fastest-selling single ever produced, and simply being one of the best Pop/Rock singer to ever take the stage.…
It was during the spring of my freshman year on a sunday and i was like always sitting on my computer watching youtube. Kicking back and relaxing while listen to songs that were recommended to me from friends. I went to type in the next song my friend dean had told me to listen to but a video from a band called the Gorillaz caught my eye. Seeing the thumbnail which threw me off because it was an animated music video so it was different from what i was use too. As i hovered over the video and clicked on the thumbnail the wind picked up for a second and the sun’s rays started to come through my windows looking and sounding like a perfect scene from a movie, then the song played.…
People and music are inseparable as Macdonald (2008, 39) argues that ‘We are all musical. Every human being has a biological, social and cultural guarantee of musicianship.’ It is hardly possible to live without hearing music in daily life, and people has been building musical identity since they are born by negotiating through it. Thus, music is a significant matter in personal identity and analysis of one’s life can reveal one’s musical identity. This essay will demonstrate the analysis of my musical identity based on my life.…
Music Review Saturday October 9, 2016; a friend and I walked into the CSM multimedia room prepared to listen a piano concert. I noticed that a majority of my peers at the concert were over the age of 55 and have been to one of the performer previous shows (which they stated during intermission). Brian Ganz started off by giving the audience a brief lesson about his history. Mr. Ganz is a jubilant and free spirited person; who love chopin (king of etudes) and only started playing piano at the age of 9 years old. He became a wonderful player by the help of his marvelous teachers and supportive parents.…
