Personal Narrative: A Career In High School Writing

Improved Essays
High school is an enthralling adventure. For one, it is time for one to start thinking about their future and what they want to do with their life. Thanks to a news-writing class during my sophomore year, I was able to get an idea. Thanks to the past two football seasons, I was able to get an assurance. Scrolling through my Twitter timeline one night, I noticed that a local newspaper was searching for correspondents to join their high school football beat. Knowing that I would be attending the games anyways, I sent in my resume. Likely scenario, I thought, is that they hand-off to someone with more experience. …show more content…

How was I going to meet my deadline? What kinds of questions should I ask the head coaches? How am I supposed to track down the head coaches? My mind was moving a mile a minute. Despite my fright, the game went fine. The article, on the other hand? Not so

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

I am greatly inspired by the Securities and Exchange Commission’s goal to protect investors but also enforce their accountability to conduct investments in a fair and orderly manner. It allows for a fair process in which investors are subject to an impartial analysis and decision process of their cases. It creates an atmosphere of transparency, understanding, trust, and respect between staff, citizens, and the accused. Similar to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s goal, my goal as a person and aspiring attorney is to be helpful, fair, respectful, objective, and observant. I am eager to gain an understanding of our rapidly changing world and its relationship to law and the economy.…

My goal is visual storytelling for print and digital that is content-driven, clear and easy to navigate. I accomplish this by collaborating and communicating with photo and word editors. This also requires staying up-to-date with daily news and being familiar with our newspaper's content. I often juggle multiple tasks during a design shift. In addition to my design responsibilities, I help make sure design desk schedules are accurate and posted in a timely manner, fix plotter paper jams, resolve digital issues, manage page flow, convert graphics to our style or correct them, provide detailed explanations of workflow issues, create illustrations and provide help to my colleagues when needed.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

When I submitted the article to the editor at Valnet Inc, I had hoped that my time had not been wasted; instead of eating dinners with my family for a few days, I had incessantly sifted through numerous sources for content. What I could not foresee was that in six days, on February 29th, 2016, I would log into my account and perceive an exponential view trend approaching 400,000 reads of my work. At the end of thirty days - I had accumulated nearly two million views - which in turn - earned me my first paycheck as an author. Having writing published was not an inconceivable idea when I had discovered Valnet Inc. in tenth grade. In fourth grade, I had found a website that enabled me to write and publish sports articles for leisure.…

A lot of my childhood memories are associated with newspapers. I grew up in the big city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where the delivery man used to slide the daily newspaper under the door of our apartment every day at 7 a.m. Me and my brother would immediately rush to pick up the sports page, my mother the fashion pages and my father the front page. There was no Internet or cable news in that city during that time, making newspapers the only sources of news. When my grandfather grew too old to read, he used to ask me to read aloud news from his favorite newspapers.…
