Personal Narrative: A Career In High School

Coming from an Orange County family with a traditional western lifestyle my educational focus on the responsible consumption and protection of resources has been, and will continue to be, a journey. I chose Sustainability as my major early in my Junior year of high school when I took a close look at what I was passionate about, where I excelled, how I was spending my time and the people with whom I surrounded myself. Mr. Paddock, my Statisticsstats teacher influenced my decision to Minor in Statistics by noticing my aptitude in his class and demonstrating how a good understanding of correlations enhances almost any career choice. My career aspiration is to work with organizations that promote social justice and eradicate environmental racism by providing equal availability to clean air, water and resources to people of all demographics. …show more content…
My sSenior year of high school I was elected Associated Student Body Public Relations Officer and was able to engage the student body with confidence and respect. I have learned from my SDSU Anthropology class and personal experience that good communication between people is the best tool for progress and positive change, and should be the foundation for every political, bureaucratic, environmental, or even philanthropic endeavor. I also excelled in written communications, earning a perfect score on the English section of the newly implemented common core (CAASPP) test. My Senior year in high school I founded and led the Vegan Club, where I brought together students from different social groups to learn ways to eat more compassionately and environmentally friendly. Some of my other involvements pre-SDSU were working in the local farmers’ market outreach program, volunteering to set up and participating in the quarterly blood drives, helping in the county library, working as a peer tutor, and guest- hosting on the public radio station, KZFR 90.1 FM - Nonhuman Radio
