I attended the S.F. Green Film Festival at the Roxie Theater on Friday, April 15th to watch a screening of the documentary film, Jumbo Wild, directed by Nick Waggoner, and it took place mostly at Jumbo Glacier/Valley which is designated as a mountain resort municipality in the East Kootenay region of southeast British Columbia, Canada. It is a massive, breathtaking range of mountain peaks and glaciers that is part of the Purcell Range in the Columbia Mountains located near the edge of Jumbo Creek. What interested me initially in the movie and why I decided to pick this movie from all the other ones is that I’m an avid skier myself (I’ve been skiing for about 10 years now) and I usually go up to Reno/Lake Tahoe, Nevada to go skiing at ski resorts…

For over ten years my average day consisted of four main activities: school, homework, gymnastics, and sleep. While school breaks or holidays may have upset three of the four, competitive gymnastics was always a constant. Three hours a day five days a week with no off season left no room for apathy. During my years as a gymnast, I learned the lessons I am sure every athlete is taught— dedication, time management, and determination. However, gymnastics taught me two lessons that other athletes fail to learn thoroughly.…

For fun and diversion, sports has been my number one outlet. The game of football has been a passion of mine for as long as I can recall, and it shows how hard work can pay off. The countless hours in the film room, relentless practices, and preparing day and night to get the win is what makes football such a great time. I just recently finished my second semi-professional football season in Indiana, as a running back and cornerback. Although I am unsure whether I will play again, I feel that it is much easier to stay prepared for the opportunity, as opposed to getting out of shape and then deciding to play.…

It all started after my friend’s party, where we all went ice skating for her 9th birthday. It was my first ever time stepping onto the ice, a long time before my life revolved around the sport. Even though I had never skated before, my friends and their parents told me that I stood out compared to the other girls.
