Since beginning at Penn Foster, it has been a challenge to balance out all my responsibilities as an adult. From working forty hours a week at my local Walmart, to volunteering a few hours of my day at the SPCA my life is full of chaos. It is not always easy to stay focused on my assignments but with a little bit of planning and some help from family members it has become much easier to stay on task and makes it seem like I am actually accomplishing something now. Twenty one days, that is how long it takes to make something a habit. Now that I have fallen a whole semester behind because I spent too much time working …show more content…
Since I have been in school for a year now you would think it has gotten easier.. wrong. I still struggle to make the ends meet each and every day. Thankfully I have a wonderful boyfriend, sister and niece that understand my schedule is full and hard to keep up with. Other than on Mondays and Tuesdays my days and nights are booked from eight a.m. until ten p.m. My Walmart schedule is one pm until ten p.m. which means at eight a.m. I am up and on my way to the SPCA, where I volunteer at. My everyday duties as a volunteer there includes walking and bathing the dogs and then to clean their kennels by giving them new toys, bedding, food and water. With the cats my duties starts with moving them to a new clean cage that already includes new toys, bedding, food, water, and a new litter box. After the cat is moved to a new cage I have to clean and set up their old one by doing the same routine. Ten a.m. is when the SPCA unlocks their doors which now I have a new expectation, which is to get our animals there new forever homes. I do not only volunteer at the shelter, I also volunteer with the shelters on some weekends. At least once a month I go out and do adoptions off campus

Growing up is tough. Every day people go through life with careers that they may not enjoy. Throughout the past few weeks I got the opportunity to interview two people about their jobs, one being a young adult who just started working, while the other was approaching her mid-life with an established career. The advice from both of these individuals was both eye opening and helpful. The age of the interviewee definitely influenced the responses I received.…

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…

At times I think it’s often quite normal for new teachers to become overwhelmed their first year teaching. Especially at a school where there may not be enough resources to adequately assist them, this leaves many new teachers to fend for themselves. In my experience, it was my mentors that made a difference in my career, and prompted me to pay it forward and it is these mentors that I try to emulate in my own mentoring. A mentor serves as a professional role model for the mentee.…

Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…

Even though I applied for financial aid I was denied. I came to learn that the federal formula was weighted not only by income but also by assets. So my parent’s small nest egg, a modest home with sundry repairs to come and a mortgage to be paid every month for the next ten years, counted against me. I’d attend classes during the early morning hours, late afternoons, evenings and weekends as long as it didn’t interfere with my work hours. When breaks came around, while some of my friends were off on vacation or volunteering in faraway countries, I worked extra hours.…

For many people which career they want to attend college to work towards comes pretty naturally like teaching has always been their passion or they’ve always loved the feeling of being in a kitchen. For me however what I wanted to do as a career and attend college for didn’t come as naturally. I explored many ideas like becoming a chef. But I soon found out that I could burn water and therefore cooking wasn’t exactly my strong suit. After many failed attempts at finding a career that would be a good fit for me I started a mission to find out what exactly I wanted to be.…

A motif that haunts the months of college applications and preparation is the daunting idea of seniors entering into the "real world." An alleged, new realm of reality that discredits the validity of the last few years in high school, not to mention the three before that and all the experiences previously. This concept coincides seamlessly with the idea that college is a beacon of newfound adulthood. Even so, each student's differing personality, aspirations, culture and tribulations falsifies the belief that adulthood is that straightforward. Thus, in order to define the moment that marked my transition into adulthood, I must first define what being an adult means to me.…

Overall, I enjoyed the time I put into this project by voulunteering. While volunteering, I had a couple different jobs to do. These jobs include cat cuddling, dog walking, and play time coordinator for dogs. Cat cuddling, being exactly what it sounds like, was simply spending time with the cats at the shelter. This can mean playing with them, cuddling with them, grooming them, or even just letting them out of their kennel for a little while.…
