Personal Narrative: A Career As A Writer

At first I wanted to be a writer, and along with most people my age, I had stories I wanted to tell. I felt that writing was the best way to move those stories into the real world, but as I went through school, I realized that I did not have enough skill as a writer to maintain a living off of these stories hence I decided to move into a career path that suited my way of thinking. That was when I began to teach myself how to code instead. All I had to begin with was my phone, so I found apps that taught basic coding ideas. While I used to think I had no meaning in life programming gave me goals to feel accomplished with which helped with these feelings. Coding has helped me learn other facts other than how to program computers to print words onto a screen. It taught me about how much I love to learn. While I always enjoyed school, programming taught me the feeling of reaching my own self set goals. It also taught me how quickly I could pick up topics. The free courses I have taken would review what I had already learned; in a few instances I would become appropriately frustrated. Programming also showed me how to stop my procrastination. I will still put off projects I’m anxious about, like almost all people, but if I have a clear goal I work out how long it should take me to …show more content…
It gave me insight into how easily I become distracted by other tasks along with how difficult it is to begin learning when I distract myself. I also form new goals while my past goals are unfinished which leads to me not finishing them. Programming let me know that without friends or family telling me to do something I easily put off learning, and before I start coding on my own, I need a push from others to help motivate me. It also showed me how challenging it is to cut out distractions from my life. For instance, it took me an entire day before I could convince myself that my social media apps were distracting
