Personal Narrative: A Career As A Veterinarian

The sun was bright and smiling down on my house as a small breeze blew through my hair. I was sitting outside on the grass playing with my Barbies,when a cute small fluffy dog started walking my way. My heart jumped in excitement and my eyes lit up. I ran up to the owner and asked to pet the dog, and he let me. The dog licked my hand and rubbed up against me. I smiled and waved the owner and the dog goodbye. At that very moment I had an epiphany and ran up to my mom, who was on the porch and asked if we could get a dog. Unshockingly she said no. I frowned and begged, but she stood by her decision. She then said, since you like dogs so much you should become a veterinarian. I looked at her in curiosity and asked what that was, and she said it was a doctor …show more content…
Interested I started to eavesdrop. First she was talking about how long she went to school for and how hard she studied. I was disappointed because I hated school and the thought of going to school for 4yrs was unthinkable. Also having to study for that long was even worse. She then started to talk about her day, and how she had to give some animals shots and put down a sick dog. I shivered in fear because I hate shots, and I was shocked. I did not expect to hear that, I thought veterinarians just played and put bandages on animals. I sat there thinking about how little I knew about the life of a veterinarian. I then thought how I no longer wanted to be a veterinarian because I did not think about the negatives of being a one and I could not stomach the thought of killing a dog. That day reality faced me and I understood what it takes to have a career, how much it takes to establish one, and having to have to do things you don’t want to, for the best of another. This experience drew me closer to reality and helped me grow up a little by having me face
