One of the most astounding aspects of these accomplishments, in my opinion, is the fact that Darwin Turner was able to attain these incredible things during a period in time where race and color played not only an important but an essential part in determining one's success in life. Diversity in no longer just tolerated. It is gladly welcomed and encouraged throughout many parts of the world. For me, being a Turner Scholar would empower me to not only celebrate and embrace diversity but also to delegate the importance all types to diversity whether it be racial, religious, cultural, socio-economic, ect within the campus of University of Cincinnati. I feel that, as a Turner Scholar, I would use the tools and implements that are given me to expand my skills in public speaking, leadership development, interpersonal communications, and cultural competency. I would utilize these skills to not only encourage the significance of diversity throughout my campus and community as a whole but also within the broader context of my altruistic goals throughout college. As a Turner Scholar, I would expend much of my time in civic activities as I pursue my undergraduate studies in Medicine. I would devote a much of my time to volunteering at a the Children's Hospital, raising money for organizations that I am passionate about such as: United for Uganda, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, and the American Lung association, tutoring struggling high-school students in low income areas within Cincinnati, and overall helping those who many not be in a place to prosper solely by
