Decent Essays
The mirror lined with lights, the smell of hairspray in the air. I twist my hair into a high bun, and coat my eyelashes with mascara. I tie up my pointe shoes and warm up on stage. I look at all of the seats that will soon be filled. As I step into my classical tutu, I go over the steps in my head. “Places” says the stage manager. I find my partner and we practice some lifts. I hear my cue and I shoot out of the wings, suddenly, my fear drifts away, and I dance from my heart.

Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…

This article was very interesting to me because I have experienced working in a toxic environment and seen firsthand the destruction it can cause. My previous mentor demonstrated dysfunctional behavior and abuse of power. I have always worked hard to perform at my best and be a great leader, I gained new dedication after my employment in that organization. My goal is to learn as much about healthy and effective leadership and to pass along those positive lessons to the individuals I mentor. I find this quite relevant to my career in the Human Resources field.…

My response to this selection is that Hornak made right decision, even though it took her long time to realize, but it would be hard for me If I were to change my career. It would be hard for me because I know I spent a lot time to study and it costs me a lot too. Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. From a young age, I've always known that musical theatre was the profession for me as I was an exceedingly theatrical youngster in every sense. Listening to every cast recording iTunes had to offer, seeing plays as frequently as humanly possible, and keeping myself up to date on the latest new plays and musicals coming to Broadway (and beyond). It was not until my first production (Willy Wonka Jr) when I realized that this theatre thing was pretty exciting and had the ability to spark something inside of me that nothing else could. I only recently found a way to describe this feeling; that being “musical theatre fills the emptiness inside me". I know that is the exact response you continue hearing from every other applicant, but it is sincere…

There was a huge chance of something going wrong and leading to injury. The air was stale, but full of sawdust; the temperature seemed to increase as I neared the table saw. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but to have something so powerful, in a sense, in my control seemed too much. My bones began to shake as my clammy hand reached to hold the handle, and at that moment I happened to turn my head to the sign that said, Failure is always an option. It was in that moment, I finally started to believe in myself to do everything I had never even thought I possibly could.…
