Personal Narrative: A Career As A Sports Analyst

Ever since I could remember, there was always a sports game going on my TV. It could have been a soccer, basketball, baseball game, it didn’t matter. The thing that stood out to me the most, though was the fact that sporting events were so inherently different form everything else I knew. Not in the sense that sports were something that I didn’t know about, but sports brought people together of all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, etc… and I had never seen that before. All the institution that I had always been in had been dominated by one group in particular, it didn’t matter what group, there was just always one group dominating everyone else. This is real in every institution from politics to schools, there is no one institution that is so inherently different from …show more content…
Once I turned fourteen, I started writing about sports and becoming really interested in doing something with the knowledge I was getting after spending some much time watching sports. I would like to think that I could be classified as a sports analyst because my knowledge was so vast from the NHL to the NBA to the MLB and there are a lot of people that would agree with me on this sentiment. Even though I loved seeing the towering home runs and the 360° slam dunks and of course, the last second hail maries; what really made me so invested in sports was the eccentric idea that anyone and everyone could watch and play a sport without judgement. This was the pivotal idea that made me want to become a sports analyst and is still the thing I think about every time I tune into a game. Being able to hear the heartfelt stories told by historic commentators like Vin Scully talk about a Cuban player’s perilous experience traveling through Latin America by smugglers and having to stay in Mexico for over a month and finally make it to the major leagues and dominating them is something that makes me want to watch sports every
