However, Mr. Kelly informed me of the Title V Grant and agreement with Alamo College has with Texas State and Our Lady of the Lake. Mr. Kelly gave me a packet to read, The San Antonio College Social Work Student Path to Success Packet and other material. Over the weekend I plan to read the material and let it sit in my mind and heart.
I went to my Aces account and checked my Alamo GPS and the courses I have already completed would not cause to much damage in the amount of courses I would have left and would need to take for either Sociology or Social Work. I understand that they are completely two different degree plans but in the end if I did change my major to Social Work there would be only two extra courses I would need to

“I Told My Son…” The other day while I was driving, my son saw a homeless man and have asked me that “how can I know which homeless person become homeless because he was a bad person”, he thinks homeless people becomes homeless because they are bad or they did something bad. If he asked me that question before I took this class my answer to him would be completely different than what I just told him. Coming into college I found I only had a passion for one thing, soccer. I have played soccer since I was four years old, so the opportunity to play collegiate soccer is the sole reason I decided to attend Concordia University Irvine, but little did I know this would be the best decision of my life thus far for a much different reason. Within my first semester I had changed my major three times. I applied to Concordia as a psychology major, then switched to business, and finally found my calling as a mass communication major with a minor in business administration. My first semester of college I was enrolled in a public speaking course and found I enjoyed the material much more than any of my other classes.…

My first experience with a LCSW gave me a strong desire to never become one. This was due to the fact that my abused best friend was scared that my mother had reached out to CPS for help. While individuals interested in social work may say that their career goals stem from the fact that they would like to “help people”, I understand that social workers cannot change people’s lives, but people can change their own life. And social workers often have the keys and the ability to teach an individual how. Any profession can be considered a “helping profession”: we need dentists, nurses, doctors, accountants, even IRS agents.…
