Personal Narrative: A Career As A Soccer Player

The meaning of kicking the ball to playing with determination; soccer has been with me for the past thirteen years. I started playing soccer on a recreational team at the age of five and eventually for Wenatchee Fire. I was always known as “spark-plug”, always on a mission to keep going and attack the ball (metaphor). Freshman year of high school, I was brought up to the varsity team to play against Chiawana. This was a huge step to play varsity soccer as a freshman in high school. Two minutes into the game, I was down and couldn’t play the rest of the season due to tearing my left ACL and lateral meniscus. This injury was the first and last as I wished upon. I came back the next year after rehabilitation of over nine months, with determination and a heavy heart for the game. This experience guided me to letter four years as a varsity athlete in high school. Soccer has been a life changing element by shaping me to be who I am, and teaching me many life lessons. Soccer has taken me to rock bottom but I have stayed strong through the toughest times in my life. …show more content…
My team was loaded with talent and chemistry, and we were on the road to accomplish great things. It was October 14, 2014 and the weather was nippy, but not unbearable for bare legs only covered by mid-thigh shorts and knee high socks. We loaded up on the charter bus and settled into our cushioned seats for a three hour ride. West Valley is located near Yakima and their soccer team was ranked second in the 4A Girls Soccer League.
