Whether it is to help save a life directly or indirectly, nurses of all kinds help our society in many ways. The preeminent reason why I’m conducting this project is for my own personal interest. I’ve always been interested in the way the brain has worked and what causes people to get certain mental disorders. I want to get into an internship working hands on with a Psychiatric Nurse because that’s the career I desire to obtain later in the future. When the time I conclude my internship, I anticipate on having a full on electronical diary entry of 120 hours of working alongside with the psychiatric nurses. Becoming a nurse is a stressful occupation which will affect your personal lives due to long shifts and affect you mentally if you’re not strong because of the life and death scenarios. For most student internships we are under the supervision and delegation of the RN, and as a nursing student enrolled in an academic program, precepted interns will be allowed to perform those tasks/duties with which they have become familiar (via theory) and performed (via clinical) thus far during their nursing education. The nurse intern will work with the preceptor in learning to work with a team caring for groups of patients. Specific nursing procedures that are allowed are identified through an orientation process. The lengths of a internship varies from 12 but can vary depending on the location of the internship. Fall internships typically start in September. Winter internships typically start in November or December. Spring internships typically start in January or February.
