Personal Narrative: A Career As A Prosecutor

Improved Essays
Prosecutors play an influential role in a court and yet nobody even knows what a prosecutor is. For those who do know, their impression is bad, who could blame them even the word sounds unpleasing. Prosecutors play just as big a role as any criminal defense lawyer, maybe even bigger because while criminal defence lawyers defend, they can also defend those that have wronged and this is when a prosecutor comes in and keeps dangerous people away from society. It’s quite easy to misunderstand a prosecutor as they go against the defense lawyers, in which society praises because they ‘prove the innocent, innocent’. Though this isn’t always the case. So I’d like to be a prosecutor to be specific a righteous prosecutor and fix all the misunderstandings behind the prosecutor job.

I see myself attending Reagan High School for their IB (International Baccalaureate) program and their successful path with past students. Throughout my high school term, I would attend a writing, debate, speaking, and English class’. These class’ will not only be helpful for law school but these class’ are also what college scouts seek for. After High School, I’m going to continue to pursue my studies in college. In college, I would be taught a more advanced curriculum and law studies that I couldn’t study in High School. This year though, I’m going to focus on an A+ Algebra. I’m going to measure my success by comments from Ms. Wells, scores from a recent test, and my own personal feelings of success. To achieve my goal, I will ask more questions, review the past lessons, and study until I feel I have fully understood the lesson. Passing Algebra will not only better my High School Application but will also have me one year ahead which gives me time to focus on College

It is somewhat an oxymoron to consider yourself a prosecutor and a good person. Paul Butler writes describing the discrepancies with progressive prosecutors who believes they are able to change the “definition” of a prosecutor. Butler defines a prosecutor as someone one who is “more part of the problem then the solution” and a person who is “geared toward punishing people whose lives are already messed up.” Furthermore, Butler qualifies his definition of a prosecutor by saying the job of some prosecutors is to “mitigate the harshness of the system.” This is a failed attempt to mend the system because their principal work applies the criminal laws instead of ameliorating its negative effects.…

Last summer, I worked near the US District Court in Hartford and often stopped in to watch hearings and bench trials. As Political Science and Philosophy of Law student, I had read about the workings of the American justice system, but I had never actually seen it up close. In many ways, it was exactly as I expected: I knew who played which roles in the proceedings, I understood most of the legal terms, and I had usually read the facts of the case and procedural history on PACER before the hearing. One thing I did not know to expect, however, was the remarkable professionalism, curtesy, and preparedness the Assistant US Attorneys. I knew that AUSAs were talented lawyers and that their positions were highly competitive, but their quick and…

If I had to do criminal, I would be a prosecutor. I think that most of the prosecutors I have observed weren’t great. Fore example, in Judge Samuels court room there was a prosecutor, who maybe because he was young he would make the mistake of not rephrasing when the other side would object. It is understanding that the prosecutor was new, it was his second case, but he does have room for improvement. I think that messing up can be easy when prosecuting the case because everything is at the moment.…

[In the criminal justice system the prosecutor plays a critical role in the delivery of due process. The prosecutor is an officer of the court with distinct responsibilities and duties. The prosecutor is charged with the responsibility for prosecutions with the authority to employ discretion in charging decisions in the jurisdiction (NVPAC, 2016). Which means not charging a case that is not substantiated by probable cause. The prosecutor is an administrator of justice, an advocate for victims of crime, he or she has the job of seeking justice for those who have been harmed and protecting their constitutional and statutory rights.…

My role in the mock trial was to be the Nurse which was one of the defense witnesses. I sat behind the defense attorneys and waited till my name was called to go up on the stand. Once I was up in the witness booth, I had to rase my right hand and say that I swear; to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help God, and I did. I was questioned the defense side and then the prosecution side. The defense took it easy on me, but the prosecution took it hard and they were determined to win the…
