I had an amazing opportunity in the beginning of my junior year to job shadow a real life physical therapist. While I was shadowing a doctor named Heidi, a physical therapist, from Aurora Wellness Center in Burlington,Wisconsin. While I was there for the short two or three hours, I learned so many new and interesting things about the life of a physical therapist. One thing I learned was how to tell if someone tore a rotator cuff, how many muscles makes up the rotater cuff, and also how to use some of the machinery the Therapist use on their patients. One of the machines they used on a young man who injured his shoulder was a heat ultrasound. Heidi used the ultrasound to help loosen up the scar tissue that formed in his shoulder from his injury.Another machine I encountered …show more content…
The way she was able to help him correct himself was to place his hands on his hips and really concentrate on his walking. She worked with the older man by doing hip exercises and stretches such as hip flexors. To be a Pediatric Physical Therapist I personally think I would fit in very well. Working with children and adolescents would keep me up to date with the world as to what is in style and what is no longer in style. I love interacting with kids, they are just so fascinating and by me becoming a pediatric physical therapist at the children's hospital of Seattle, it would make my life more interesting knowing who I’m working with and also understanding I am in the most beautiful city in America. I personally wouldn't want to sit in an office all day long dealing with paperwork while I could be having fun and healing children and adolescents. The only thing that is making me have second thoughts about becoming a P.P.T. is all of the paperwork that comes with the job and the schooling it

I am intrigued by observing all ages, because seeing the progression and digression of the human body will be a key factor in how to treat patients when I become a PTA. The most interesting part of this day was learning about trigger point dry needling, also known as intramuscular manual therapy, from the director of physical therapy at TOC, Mr. John Williams. Also, I enjoyed Mr. Keith explaining things like isometric and isotonic muscle contractions. When a young male disclosed his story of hyper extending his knee in a soccer game, I was eager to see the Isokinetic machine aid in his quad strengthening with eccentric loading. The most valuable thing I learned from this job shadowing experience was that patients are not only coming in for physical therapy.…

The area in Kinesiology that interests me the most is, Physical Therapy. There are many reasons to why i chose this profession, but my injuries, the support from my family and friends, and the adequate amount of schooling that it takes in order to become a Physical Therapist have to be the main reasons.
