Personal Narrative: A Career As A Personal Financial Advisor

Improved Essays
The career that I found interesting was Personal Financial Advisor. Personal Financial Advisors have many different responsibilities, and some of those are giving expert advice on insurance, investments, taxes, retirement planning, and many other tasks. As a Personal Financial Advisor, you need to help analyze the financial situation of the client that wants more information or insight on making good investments. Many of the clients could have some goals, and their advisor will be able to set out both short and long term goals. The short term goals can be related to stocks or bonds, and the long term goals could be saving for retirement. (BLS)

Responsibilities with this job can be very important because in many cases, there can

The job expects that the workers walk and stand minimally, while majority of the time sitting. There are not many dangerous situations while working, but there does include lifting small books, carrying papers, and some other materials. Being physically fit isn’t something that is very important for the job because all work is to be completed indoors. (Iowa)

There are also many other things that are needed to be met in order to work as a Personal Financial Advisor. The first thing is the ability to read small fonts, as well as reading text from far away. Another small skill that is needed is the ability to understand what other people are trying to say. This is important because if there is a language barrier, then it will make it hard for both the clientele and the advisor to communicate with each other. (Iowa)

Being a Personal Financial Advisor, there are numerous skills and degrees that are needed to be obtained before seeking employment. The first step is earning a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s degree looks much more appealing to many companies. To be more specific, you must select a concentration around math, economics, business or accounting. In order to achieve a master’s degree, the concentration is in a Master of Business Administration.

Looking into the future with a job outlook in financial advising, reports show that it is definitely positive with 30 percent. Many different companies in various fields are in high demand to hire Personal Financial Advisors. For example, Financial Investments are looking at 71,950 people. Security and brokerage companies are employing about 57,000 people, and management companies are employing about 7,000 people. (All Business)

The median earnings for a Personal Financial Advisor is roughly $81,000. The annual wage varies from state to state, and also from the amount of years’ experience that a person has. Most people start out earning $35,000-$52,000, but with people who have a lot of experience can ear over $175,000 a year.

From an interview that didn’t go too well, to an interview that helped me grow, my customer service professional informational interview took place at a Company that didn’t hire me a year prior. I was given the opportunity to talk to, as well as learn from, Nate Martinson, a sales coach at Capital One, here in Saint Cloud. I was referred to Nate from Becky Shand, my Strategic Customer Service instructor. Nate was one of her past students. Capital One hadn’t initially crossed my mind as a first choice for this assignment, which is why I’m glad I was able to learn more about the company.…

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…
