Nurse Mentorship A mentor is an experienced and usually older person who guides and supports a younger or a less experienced person towards a goal (Harrington, 2011, p. 169). Nurse mentors guide and support less experienced nurses to understand and improve their careers (Taylor, 2014, p. 29). In my nursing carrier I have had several mentors some of which were my instructors but the most influential mentor I have had and continue to work with is a nurse educator at my hospital. The process through which the nurse educator became my mentor developed informally during orientation for my first nursing job and she has remained my primary career adviser, counselor and trainer ever since.
