One quality firefighters must have is endurance. One must be physically fit to make it in the industry. Not only that, but once I get into the Air Force itself, to become a firefighter like I want to do, I must pass a series of physical tests that requires female participants to run a 2 mile in 22:43, 1.5 mile in 16:01, 21 pushups, and 38 sit-ups. (Put in text citation) I believe that doing swimming since I was in the seventh grade, has helped me build up my endurance for this. Ask me what the worst words that can come out of my coaches mouth are, and I’ll say they are “lactate set.” In a lactate set, swimmers sprint different distances which consist of 25’s, 50’s,100’s, and 200’s, all out and then when they reach the end, get right back out and do it again and again. I hated these sets, and I hated my coaches when it came time to do them. When I choose to go active duty, I will start out by living on base, that way my living expenses, including utilities and maintenance, are covered. The Air Force also offers a generous retirement plan, as well as bringing a sense of pride to its Airmen. I will be eligible to retire with full benefits after only 20 years of service. Most Air Force bases have golf courses, arts and crafts facilities, bowling alleys, tennis courts, swimming pools and even equipment rentals, which can be either used for free or at better rates than similar facilities or options off base, which is just another added bonus. I will also be able to receive 30 days of vacation with pay, during which I am free to travel and take time to explore local and foreign destinations. If I wanted to travel to a different country all I would have to do is get on an Air Force plane and I would be able to travel there. The thought of bringing pride to my family is what makes me so sure this is the right path for me. In all honesty, I can’t wait to graduate and join the Air Force and take on a new adventure in my life. This is the chance I’ve been waiting for, and I’m going to make the most of
