I want something I go for it, but I haven’t always been this way. After graduating high school from a small town public school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
The main ideas were simple: find something that I could make a good living doing and be happy while doing it. I enrolled in Bossier Parish Community College to take some basic courses that would likely be needed for any field I might choose. While attending BPCC I worked as a waitress and got caught up in going out with friends, making quick money, and neglecting studying for school so my GPA took a hard hit. Shortly after graduating from Northwestern I decided to switch things up, so I took a job as a labor and delivery nurse. I wanted to get away from chronic illness and death and be a part of something happy and exciting. Being a labor and delivery nurse is amazing. I absolutely love being a part of bringing new life into the world for families, whether they’re brand-new or having their sixth child. This particular field is mostly happy, but that is certainly not always the case. There are times where it is dark and grim. I am privileged to be a part of people’s best and worst days of their lives and I enjoy connecting with all kinds of different people on a 12-hour shift. As I developed my clinical knowledge and judgment I began looking into the fields where I could be more than a reaction to the problem. I wanted to continue learning and ultimately be in a place where I could really own that knowledge. So again, while working full time on the night shift, I enrolled at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and started taking prerequisites for medical school. I knew now that I wanted to be a physician. I
