Personal Narrative: A Career As A Coach

Two minutes left in the game and one goal down, the Lions need a fast break to tie up the score. The coaches are pacing. The crowd is yelling. Emotions are heightened. Everyone could feel something great was about to happen. Almost like a movie, the striker breaks away from the defense; she is sprinting towards the goal. Twenty yards away. Fifteen yards. Ten. She shoots, she scores! Joy comes over me as she races to the bench to give a me a high five. It was her first goal and I was a part of it. This past year I was given the opportunity to coach a local youth soccer team. Although challenging, coaching helped me become more responsible, pushed me outside of comfort zone, and showed me that I could make a difference in my community.
