I remember the day when I had the thought that would from that day on never fail to amaze me. I remember walking down Michigan Avenue in Chicago with the smell of Garrett Popcorn and sewage roaming the air. I remember the massive amount of tourists, including myself, stopping every five feet to take pictures of the beautiful sights of the city. I remember thinking to myself, “Why can’t these people learn how to walk in a polite and organized fashion?” However, the memory that captivates me the most is how many people were there in the same city, even the same street, as me at that exact moment. I had a realization that all of the people there had their own stories and their own reasons to be there at that time. Knowing that I am only 1/7,500,000,000 of this world’s population makes my head spin. There are so many people that I have not and never will meet in places that I will never get to see. Each and every day I have that exact epiphany that nevers fails to amaze me. Although human interaction is a frequent happening in most people’s days, whether on social media or in real life, it is sometimes hard to understand the idea that every person in this whole world has their own thoughts, their own memories, and their own aspirations. Three months ago I stepped off the ship to see ground for the first time in three years. My initial sights of the New World and the native people was enigmatic and disconcerting- never have I felt so unacquainted with a populace. I have spent my time here in Mexico City trailing along with a group of apprentices of master artists whom I traveled with on the ship from Seville. My artist companions have enlightened my understanding of New World society with their paintings in the time that we have spent together. I’ve been earning exceptional fortune in harvesting New World cochineal for export to Europe and providing pigments for the paint of my fellow artist friends.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals.
