As I got older, and started experiencing the horrifying truth that is school. I commenced to attempting to keep still sitting in the desk listening as the teacher talked, but wishing I was outside playing sports or just messing around with my friends. Now I can manage to go a couple of periods without attempting to strongly resist moving. I also had to learn to shut my mouth, often getting in trouble for talking when the teacher is talking, and sometimes this continues to happen. Nowadays I talk less, especially when the teacher is, getting me in less trouble than previously in my childhood, I also do not want to come across as an idiot and maybe cautious for this causes me to shut up and listen to others and learn from them. Thanks to staying up late to finish homework assignments that my procrastination caused me to save till the next minute and getting up at the crack of dawn to make sure I have completed all of the homework for the upcoming day and making sure it is done correctly, bags have started to develop under my eyes that were not there in the previous couple of

Part two of Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon challenges the cliché: “What goes around comes around.” He instead shows readers that people are often not treated how they should be based on their own actions. People aren’t always punished for bad deeds because they can get away with their actions in many different ways; a big one being controlling those who are supposed to control you, which is shown in the Branlin brothers’ case. In chapter 3, Gordo and Gotha Branlin spot Cory Mackenson and his friends with a strange boy with weak limbs and a strong lisp. They decide to beat them up and treat the boys like “little pieces of nothing.”…

In the book “This Boy’s Life: A Memoir”, by Tobias Wolf, the author often illustrates Jack’s coping mechanism to escape the unpleasant parts of his life. Using his coping mechanism of imagination made his life more endurable without the restraints that are placed upon him. In particular, his coping mechanism would involve him using his imagination to imagine where he wants to be in life and how much of a different boy he would be if he grew into a high class family that did not have any problems. Often during the day, Jack would be off smoking a cigarette and putting on a façade of manliness as he would describe how he did things such as “kill the turkey in Chinook”.…

To all the doctors, teachers, peers, and family members who didn’t believe I would amount to greatness, thank you. When I was young, I didn’t understand why school seemed more challenging for me than it did for everyone else. I couldn’t discern why I was unable to distinguish my right from my left no matter how many times my teacher sighed and told me it was simple or why I could complete math problems perfectly then copy my answer wrong between the work area and the answer line.…

First Confession and This Boy’s Life parallel within each other’s stories, for they both had this moment where each protagonist confessed a part of themselves within their own experiences. Jack within the story, This Boy’s life, had gone to this priest where he hadn’t given his sins trufully. A “sister” of his, had shared her confession where she had done wrong, only to later modified it slightly to pass as his own. This idea of out playing among this “confession” of his gives this thought of him not being true to himself, not seeing what he had done wrong so far. Which is what continues to play out throughout the story of his life.…

The moral of the Boy who Cried Wolf, although true, can sometimes be twisted around. When I was thirteen, I attended a girl’s camp, perfect for the average girl because it banned the phones, makeup, and fashion, the three things teenage girls dreaded the most. So, with nothing better to do during the long days in camp, we were forced to do the one thing usually reserved for boys- pranking the leaders. I guess a break from phones really did do us well because we were cynical and ingenius in all our prank designs- shaving cream on the toilet, pretend tarantulas inside bagels, a nice wet seat for them wherever they sat, but most importantly, spiders.…

I had heard the reports and saw the newspapers but I didn’t expect this kind of devastation to happen so suddenly. The United States was making threats and I knew they weren’t going to go about this quietly. The years that followed this shocking day in the city of Hiroshima were just as degrading. The morning of August 6th, 1945 started out normal. I was about to leave my house to go to work after waking the kids up to have breakfast.…
