I was the Dodgers’ last hope of ever making it to the World Series. We were up against the Giants. Literally. We were all 8-10 year olds, and they were like 13. I had absolutely no chance. The score was 3-0, Giants. I was the little girl amongst boys. As I finally built up the courage to step into the box, that’s when I heard it. The pitcher made the biggest mistake anyone could have made at that moment. He said, “Girls can’t hit. They’re stupid.”

I felt the anger build up inside me, as I confidently glared at the pitcher. ‘Not this time’ I thought. ‘Not this time’. The

During the world series on an October evening in 1989, the Giants and Athletics battled for a world title. It was any average play off game in baseball. Lots of excitement, a hostile playing field, and the crowd would cheer over just about anything. Watching the game by himself was Bill Tate, who just got home from a night of work. “It was early in the game, no score yet, when suddenly Al Michaels, the announcer, said ‘What was that?’…

This team showed great adversity yesterday. Now I know this game should not have been as close as it was and that needs to be fixed. But for this young Buccaneers team to come out and surrender a two score lead and still overcome adversity is an impressive feat and shows growth with this Bucs team. So many times in the past, we have watched our Bucs slowly self destruct and lose big leads and never get them back. Yes the Bucs should have blown them out, yes the Bucs still suffer from the kicking blues (as of yesterday), yes the Bucs didn't get a sack against a lackluster Giants offensive lineman.…

During that very special baseball game I was beasting at shortstop. Every time a ball was hit my way I would either catch it or scoop it up off the ground depending on what type of hit it was but if the ball came my way my fans already knew what was going to happen. My fans already knew that I was going to get the batter out or get a double play and most of the time I did. It felt so great knowing that I helped my team achieve excellence and earn victories. My team had a very strong and unstoppable defense and if it wasn't for our teamwork, we wouldn't have had such a successful season.…

Our pitcher threw the ball and a quick swing from the batter made a pop and sent the ball flying towards center. As the raging ball came towards me I ran forward to it. It was getting closer and closer I jumped closed my glove and with great pride opened it up again. The glove was empty I panicked and turned back the ball was at the warning track the runner was making his way towards 3rd base. I turned and ran as fast as my body could, but I was too slow by the time I picked up the ball the runner was already making his way towards home base.…

My first baseball game ever had been off to a tremendous start; until my next at bat. After my first at bat, I was riding my high horse thinking I was going to get another hit and make my dad proud all over again. I stepped into the white caulk batter’s box, and went through it all again. As the pitch came in, I noticed it seemed to be coming towards me instead of down the middle. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I stayed right where I was; and got…

One ritual my family experiences is having an early Thanksgiving dinner and watching the Dallas Cowboys game. The tradition starts late on the night before thanksgiving. We start by ordering pizza, and then we begin prepping dinner for Thanksgiving Day. My sister and I prepare the side dishes, while my mother, aunt and grandmother make all the main dishes and desserts. We usually stay up all night finishing dinner prep, watching television, and cracking jokes.…

In mid-April of 2015 I was playing in a pre-season softball tournament for our Saydel team. It was a wet rainy day and we had a six hour game delay; we eventually got to play. I went up to bat, I got a pathetic little hit and knew I was going to be out at first base, but I ran anyway. The third baseman fielded the ball and made an awful throw to the first basemen. The first baseman jumped in the baseline.…
