Well, I made it to camp yesterday evening. I wanted to get here earlier and start preparing for the hunt before the rains came but when I tested my campers electric brakes they weren't working so I troubleshot and repaired the brakes. Of course, I had my tools buried in my truck for the trip but I managed with a pair of scissors and some wire nuts. I found two wires broken where they come through the axle. I also swapped brake controllers, the one in my work truck was a little better.

The rains came in the night and will continue throughout the day and night and into tomorrow. I did get almost everything unpacked and ready to go and I’m planning on hunting in the rain this evening. I can’t stand sitting around and it should be a good evening

It was about 2:30 by the time we get out to the stand, and I learned my lesson after the morning hunt so I put on many layers. It was like the morning hunt, dead. We sat and waited, and nothing was moving. Before I knew it, the sun began to sink, and the wind picked up.…

When I woke up it's 5:30 in the morning and I am really excited because today was the morning of the opener for deer hunting season. When we took showers we use the shampoo removed our body odor so that the deer couldn’t smell us. I had put on several layers of clothing for the cold snow that awaited with ice piercing wind that cuts across your face. After we were ready, we went in the garage to grab our orange winter coats and snow pants.…

Sometime, when I was about four, in a small, isolated country kitchen in regional Victoria, my mother noticed that I was taking "funny turns", moments that took me away and into my own world. It took time but eventually the diagnosis came back - welcome to epilepsy. Then, back in the day it was a limiting and defining description; no support groups; little information but much fear; it stalked me through all facets of life, complicating both the serious and the mundane. It changed little things, fell between you and life, little hurdles, like risk; the meds made you nod off in the afternoon; the need to carry medication (got your wallet; got your pills), explanations and reassurances for teachers, coaches and, just when you thought you…

There is nothing greater than helping your grandparents on their large ranch in the middle of Kansas. That was what I was thinking as I hopped on my grandmother Patrice’s horse named Watermelon. My mother told me, my grandparents owned a gigantic ranch, so I instantly wanted to come out and help them and learn how to care for cattle. They had a bunch of cattle on their farm that they have to care for everyday. My mother decided to have me assist them with caring for their animals.…

The sun shined bright above as I roared down the dirt path past fields filled with crops. The wind tore through my hair, whipping it back and forth. I had never experienced such a rush. The car moved at a slower pace as we came closer to the camping spot. As I came out, I slammed the door shut, that made a big bang. I heard my little brother and sister screaming with excitement, her eyes wide, glancing out at the crystal blue sky, my mom ran to the lake, right in front of us with her camera. There was the beaming hot sun, tall oak trees and right in front of me was a small gross puddle of mud, making the air smell like a dumpster. I felt a shudder, gentle cold breeze, that blew against me, that made goosebumps on my arms and legs.…

We had ate dinner around 8:30 that nite. It was getting cloudy again and I could already tell it was going to rain again. We had already prepared for this because we had put some water proof spray on our tent and we put tarps over our tent. So now we didn’t have to worry, but of course, that didn’t matter. It was maybe 12:00 am when it started to rain again.…
