Code Of Conduct In Nursing

Morals are taught to us as children growing up in a home with elders, whether it be are parents or family members that have raised us. From morals we tend to mature, and create our own beliefs based off what we feel was right or wrong with what we were taught growing up. These newly learned beliefs now become the foundation of our personal code of conduct. Although morals, and code of conduct are closely related the simple difference is that not only knowing right from wrong, but in are code of conduct we attach the ability to conform to the social norm of our surroundings in our organization. As stated in Electrophysiological Precursors of Social Conformity," Humans often change their beliefs or behaviors due to the behaviors or opinions of others."(p. 756) We do this as at a subconsicous level in order to fit in or create an environment that is peaceful. Very few upheld a positive attitude, and helped us as much as possible during our stay. On the other hand, a large majority saw us as another patient, or just going through their steps in order to get through the day. I am not one to complain or stir the pot, but if all were to act as if they followed the proper code of ethics then our stay woul have been much more pleasant. Provision 1 in The New Codes of Ethics for Nurses, states "The nurse practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and unique attributes of every person." If this was true, and a standard across the board, then I would feel more comfortable with my child 's life in their hands.
