Personal Legend Essay A personal legend is ones destiny in life. The idea of a personal legend is introduced in the novel The Alchemist by Paul Coelho. In the novel, Santiago, the main character, attempts at pursuing his personal legend and he endures many obstacles on the way. My name is Jonathan Katz; I am 14 years old and I live in Englewood, NJ. At this period in my life, I am interested in engineering, computers and the subject of math. I believe that I can piece all of these interests together in my professional life to change and enhance the condition of people’s lives all around the world. My personal and academic goals mean a lot to me. I enjoy both my engineering and math classes in TABC at the same time I challenge myself to certain fitness goals. In the distant future, I am interested in engineering because of its practical use in our world. I have consistently viewed life in this way and this leads me to enjoy the thoughts of Santiago on his journey to Tarifa. Santiago thinks, “Its the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” (Page 11). I try to practice these ideas. I live to follow

On my journey, I anticipate being challenged by understanding all of the material in a quick manner and completing all assignments on time, as these are not my strongest skills. On page 129, the Alchemist tells Santiago “You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it has to say. That way, you’ll never have to fear an unanticipated blow.” This means that Santiago needs to be prepared to take risks and make sacrifices in order to reach his ultimate goal, the treasure. I need to be especially careful to heed by this, because I can’t be bothered and slowed down by unexpected occurrences and events that are out of my control.
