He believes he only way to learn about alchemy is to read books, but when he finally got to he oasis all the alchemist told him was “go and try” (Coelho, 95). Sometimes people make other people responsible for their personal legend. The Englishman put his personal legend in the hands of those who wrote those books. He seems to believe that once he gets to a certain point the universe will do the rest for him. Out of all those years he had read those books and searched for the alchemist to show him how to accomplish his dream, he could have been trying and expire mentions himself. If one follows their personal legend they will begin a journey they will never forget. They will make new friends and expirince new views and new traditions, they could become an over all better person. If one does not follow their personal legend they may regret it for the rest of their lives. That is why following you personal legend is important and realistic. The major theme in the book The Alchemist is to follow your personal legend and that notion manifest in most of the characters in the story. Santiago, the Englishman, Fatima, the crystal shop owner, and many more characters had to make the decision to work towards their dream or face reality.
