Personal Learning Styles: Mixed Bag

Decent Essays
11. Personal learning styles are the best ways in which we learn, to achieve optimal results. My personal learning style is a mixed bag. I like to understand the theory before attempting something but if the the opportunity arrises for a practical approach I will take that avenue. I generally learn faster from watching someone else and then trying it for myself, as it enables for support and guidance. I am always ready to seize an opportunity when the time comes, as I strive for that increased understanding and up skilling that can become apparent at any moment. I will take advantage of learning opportunities by always having an open mind, searching for knowledge and becoming aware of all possible avenues, that could be related to my job. I

My Learning Style My learning style is auditory, it can help me learn because all I have to do is make sure I listen and more than likely I will succeed. Also, this will help me in sports because if I listen, then I will always know what to do. Such as, different plays and my teammates advice. In addition, I already read out loud.…

My personal learning style is kinesthetic. I like to have a feel for the particular assignment. For example, when I was in elementary school, I remember one of my teacher was explaining math and for some reason I was not getting it. My teacher pulled me aside and told me, “How about you use some blocks to explain the problem?” When I was a little girl, I used to build large towers in my room.…

Two Styles of Educating Ones Self Education, is it strictly confined to the classrooms, or it is more than that. Can a person really learn more outside on their own, in Keith Gilyard’s “First Lesson”, he had already been educated on life before he had cut teeth. Learning can happen at any time if you try to educate yourself or if life feels like it’s time to be taught. Frederick Douglass explains in “How I Learned to Read and Write”, the ways in which he took education into his own hands and formed his own classroom throughout his daily life. These two authors show two distinct styles on how to educate yourself, rather your teacher is life choices or if your teacher is a Mr. or Mrs. Whether you perceive education as a burden or the holy grail it is important, because if you pay attention at the right moments you can learn amazing things from books or just your eyes.…

When I took the VARK exam I was genuinely surprised with my results. My results concluded that I have a multimodal learning preference with a high score in kinesthetic. Before this exam I would have not considered myself a kinesthetic learner, I always thought I was just a visual and hands on learner. But after researching what kinesthetic was and what kind of approaches a person with this type of learning styles does, it all clicked for me. As a kinesthetic learner I appreciate examples, especially ones that portray to the real world and are not make believe.…

Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…

Learning styles can best be described as the manner by which an individual naturally or habitually prefers to acquire information, synthesize, and implement it within his/her life (Blue James & Gardner, 1995). Learning styles therefore are varied and diverse as each individual gathers, processes, and analyzes information in accordance with his/her intelligence level (intellectual or IQ, emotional or EQ, and spiritual or SQ), his/her environment, and motivation. David Kolb is one of the most well-known scholars in learning theories. His work has been adapted within the field of commerce, education, and development. Kolb looked to learning as experiential, that is learning by doing.…

My learning style involves collecting information before making any comments. I suppose if you wanted to fit me into one specific category it would probably be a solitary (intrapersonal) learning style. With a solitary learning style, I 'm considered “more private, introspective and independent. You can concentrate well, focusing your thoughts and feelings on your current topic. You are aware of your own thinking, and you may analyze the different ways you think and feel” (Solitary [intrapersonal] learning style).…

Trying to explain learning to anyone is a challenge I think. I feel as though the term “learning” is not just one straight forward definition. If I had to explain it to someone who hasn’t taken this class, my old definition would have been simply any information gathered and stored in the brain through the use of our five senses. Taking this class, and critically reading the text given, has made me realize that my explanation of learning was only partially correct. After conducting a comprehensive analysis of my own personal learning habits, I can now confidently provide a more accurate definition of the term.…

As a teacher, your students should always respect you. If you become too open with the students, then they might just stop taking you seriously and won’t listen to you when needed. Teachers hold a power when they conduct a class, and that power should remain till the end of the year if you want your students to learn better. Following week after the general discussions over the reading assignments in the classroom, we had an assignment that was related to reading an article from home that was assigned to us and then later on discussing it with your group and presenting in front of the classroom.…

This also tells us that if we try to learn a language we somehow turn into another person or persona it is because we think that since we are in another country and we speak different language, we create a different side of us, the side of us that wants to adapt and the side of us that wants to be a part of another society. Learning is a process that we follow life-long, especially in the present times where there is an explosion of information every second and we are expected to be lifelong learners. Unfortunately, learning in the current scenario has become a one-size-fits-all approach in the education process that is not tailored to suit a person’s abilities. This compliance is especially true of our conventional school system. The problem, however, is that not all children can adapt to such stiff style of learning.…
