Personal Learning Plan

At Barnardos I am a part of the Child, Youth and Family Support (CYFS) team, which consists of: domestic violence, youth support, child sexual assault and family support. A part of my learning on placement has involved a combination of tasks that incorporate a range of educational and practical tasks; these tasks have been extrapolated from my learning plan. Tasks that I have been involved in have included following up on referrals for clients (for instance cancer support groups), helping to organise school holiday activities (family craft day and a farm day). I found the farm day to be a beneficial learning experience, as it highlighted the importance of seeing the family and children in a different informal setting, where different behaviours …show more content…
Following these house visits, I have been writing up cases notes and as well as debriefing with the social worker I was shadowing; this has given me the opportunity to improve on my communication and interpersonal skills. I have also been asking questions on house visits to obtain information for assessment purposes, which I have been responsible for writing; this has given me an opportunity to apply knowledge for practice using the Support Children and Responding to Families (SCARF) model. SCARF is a guided practice assessment and planning tool that analyses the family’s and children’s strengths, also where hardship is being experienced through an ecological lens by taking into account issues surrounding child development, parenting capacity as well family and community. Barnardos is able to provide family support using the family’s strengths as the basis for empowering and assisting with hardship. Action plans are then developed based on the needs of the family so ongoing services can focus on these needs. Moreover, I had the opportunity to observe a Family and Community Services (FACS) safety assessment, with the outcome of the assessment unfortunately resulting in the removal of the child. I feel this has been a valuable professional …show more content…
There will be a focus on supporting me more to grow in confidence and not be afraid to attempt tasks without much input from others. Practical ways in which learning will be demonstrated will be through experiencing some time with Barnardos Out of Home Care and Temporary Accommodation Program, sharing a client with my supervisor, observing a face to face interview with an onsite interpreter, assisting with the mothers group and childcare that provides information to mothers on talking to their kids about their body, financial advice, education readiness and assistance with rejoining the

Using theories from social influences and human behaviour and development I was able to see Mr’s perspective on issues which he has spoken in confidence about, and also how the community may feel towards someone like Mr X without knowing his background or personality. By complying with the NMC Codes of conduct I treated Mr X as an individual without judgement and with respect throughout the entire activity (NMC, 2015). Safe working practice was also a key aspect leading up to and during the activity, this is knowledge not only gained from my HNC course but by thoroughly researching the care homes policies and procedures in relation to risk assessments. Throughout the planning and development of the activity I tried to ensure where possible that I linked theory learned during my course into practice leading up to and during the activity. By acknowledging Mr X’s needs during the activity, when an opportunity for a friend to sit and chat with Mr X I felt it was appropriate to allow this to happen as improving Mr x’s…

The act promotes children’s rights as it provides free school meals for children in Primary 1-3. It gives extra help to children in care so they receive the same treatment as any other child giving them an equal chance to succeed. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are an essential part of the 21st Century classroom. Many students have certain exceptionalities that must be taken into consideration during classroom planning. Because of the uniqueness of each student and their specific needs, there is no ‘one size fits all’ plan. IEPs are created specifically for each individual student, catering to their own unique needs.…

A Personal Knowledge Plan The pursuit of education is founded on various reasons with each learner depicting distinct views on why there is need to learn. Getting a chance in the higher education realm is considered a privilege for some learners, especially because there are specific qualifications required for one to fit in such an environment. As is put by Robert Proctor, “Ignorance is a product of inattention, and since we cannot study all things, some by necessity—almost all, in fact—must be left out” (7), it is vital to note that ignorance, as a choice that is selective, may involve more than a person’s decisions to what to study. Therefore, while the prerequisites may be general, such as the attainment of pre-determined cut-off points, specificity emerges afterward when certain core subjects are demanded a specific course or career path.…

I chose to study a novel ‘The Shock of the fall’ in which the protagonist suffers from schizophrenia and the author is a Mental Health Nurse. I was intrigued to read about the thought process and when researched into the neuro pathways of a schizophrenic which had enlightened me to the challenging effects of the illness. Furthermore, whilst studying English Literature I was engrossed by the concept of the Oedipus complex, whilst reading the novel ‘Room’, using this as the centre of my coursework I researched into the more elaborate beliefs of Freud’s theories involving both the physiological and psychological developments…

I found my learning objectives more difficult to create than my performance objectives, since they are more abstract. International development is a multidisciplinary program with many different approaches, and as a result of that there are many approaches to using information gained from the program in real like context. The first goal I came up with was to work on “…using the theories I have learned in my development classes and apply them to launching ‘Calls for Proposals’…”. This goal embody both my existing knowledge and room to learn more about best practices in the government. My reasoning behind this goal was, that by knowing many theories of economic and social development such as modernization, dependency, and structuralist theories, I would be able to review applications and identify which had the most potential based on their models of thinking.…
