For my Personal Learning Assignment, I printed off eleven pictures that could have the potential to represent individual’s lives. I used all the images on my roommates, and clients at my job. I found it very interesting on the pictures that were chosen and the reasoning why.
All of my roommates chose the calmest pictures. They state, “I have no reason to be sad, frustrated, or anything else like that. So, I’m choosing the waterfall, rainforest, mountains.” This made a question, do they really have nothing going on? Or are they lying to me? But, when I asked one of my other roommates, she chose two pictures. I had to let her know it could only be one. She then stated, “Well, I want to pick the fire, because I hate my job and don’t want to go into work. Also, I want to choose the cute puppy.” In the end, this roommate went with the fire image. This showed me that she in tuned with all of her feelings and did not suppress any while doing this activity.
When I showed clients at work these pictures, I got a ton of the same response. Waterfall, it’s peaceful, and a mountain, I would want to live their alone. However, I was not expecting one client to pick the puppy. The words this individual were, “The puppy wants to be loved, and represents new life, new beginnings and symbolizes innocents.” After hearing what was said, it really made me step back and

Having done this activity gave me insight into how in touch each individual is with their feelings. In the Chemical Dependency field, I will be able to use this for a group activity to draw on individuals feelings. The activity can be done when group members disclose something very personal that has been difficult to discuss. Also, it can be done to get others to discuss more than they otherwise would have. When I entire into the field, I hope to someday use this activity during one of my

My “Where I’m From Poem” demonstrates who I am, and my identity. Each line of the poem reveals another aspect of my identity, and opens up to who I am even more. The whole poem is a metaphor of my identity, which is based on my inner and outer self. For example, in line six I state: “I am from the tropical beaches”. This is a metaphor because I was not actually born on the beach, but instead, is something that makes me who I am.…

In the book, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, author Dee Brown argues that the Native American’s historical injustices and oppressions should be remembered in the attempt to prevent similar events from happening in the future. He supports his argument through the voices of different tribes and army men as he describes battles, broken treaties and massacres. In this way he illustrates how the racism against Indians in many people, including army officials, causes great tension throughout many conflicts. Brown demonstrates this attitude while he argues that soldiers ignored the Indians desire for peace. Through countless events he argues, that because of the white man’s hunger for land, the Indians were tricked and forced, one tribe after another, onto…
