In order to develop a personal philosophy of leadership, it is important for me to understand and think deeply about the subject. The three aspects that I value as my personnel philosophy leadership characteristics are honesty, leading with goals, and goal setting by articulating a vision. One of my personal philosophy leadership characteristics is honesty. When it comes to being honest, it allows for better assessment and growth. From the reading, “Seek and Speak Your Truth”, “When people are open and honest, thanking them publicly encourages them to continue while sending a powerful signal to others” (Sheryl Sandberg, “Seek and Speak Your Truth”, Byrd, 47). However being honest can sometimes be difficult for some people because they are afraid of hurting other people’s feelings. In unit six, “Leading with Goals”, “Goals are the bedrock of a leader’s ambition, aspiration, design, intent, and purpose” (Byrd, 266). However, sometimes it may be difficult to achieve a goal. But just because a person is having a hard time achieving a goal, they should keep trying to achieve that goal and not give up. A good example would be the story “Pygmalion”. In the story, Professor Higgins created a goal to teach Eliza Doolittle proper English and how to act like a lady. Even how frustrating it was at first, Professor Higgins never gave up on Eliza or his goal to help Eliza reach her true dreams. Another way to achieve goals is to keep a perhaps list. A perhaps list is “a list kept under each role of things you might want to do. Whenever an idea occurs to you, write it on the “perhaps” list under the appropriate role for future consideration” (Stephan R. Covey, “The Power of Goals”, Byrd, 315). The perhaps list can also be useful in setting up short-term and long-term
