My leadership philosophy or the way I would define myself as a leader has changed throughout my life. Since a young man I have been taught how to be a leader and have had many role models. There has been those who showed good leadership qualities along the way as well as those who did not possess good leadership traits. All these experiences has helped to shape who I am as a leader and has helped to create my leadership philosophy. In this essay I will expound on the value of respect, just one of my personal values that I feel is the center of my leadership style and philosophy.

Respect is a value I learned at a very young age. I was taught to respect those around me whether it was at home, at school or with a stranger out and about. As I grew older and gained more experiences, I found that I was drawn to and had a desire to follow those leaders who showed respect to others. I enjoyed being around them. They earned my trust and I was willing to do the tasks they needed me to accomplish. I would like to share two examples from my life to help illustrate why respect is so important to me.

If there was an opportunity for me to grow he would make sure I was involved. He also took the time to get to know me and my interest outside of work. He always listened to my opinions and treated me in a way that I felt

This allowed Mike and I the opportunity to make decisions together, discuss strategy, and stay focused on our vision and strategy, making adjustments as needed. Developing an understanding and appreciation of the strengths and abilities each brought to the table helped us work collaboratively together and form a strong partnership. Discovering that we certainly approached things from different aspects and viewpoints, bringing unique gifts, experiences, and knowledge, our underlying core values were very similar and added to our ability to form a cohesive team.…

Business issue: Approaches to Leadership I would think that organizations embrace additional approaches to leadership when problems are not being mitigated by the usual approach. A long-standing leadership model is the Fiedler contingency model; its revamped version is called the cognitive resource theory. “The contingency theory of leadership has proven to be one of the most valid and reliable measures of an individual’s leadership potential” (Waters, 2013). Likewise, “cognitive resource theory is developing a solid body of research support” (Robbins and Judge, 2009, p. 395).…
