Personal Narrative: My Journey Through Christianity

Improved Essays
My journey through Christianity began when I was a young boy. I was born into a family of devout Catholics deriving from my father’s side. My father even went to and graduated from a Catholic school. So from a young age I was taught the importance of God in our life. However, my mother’s side was not as religious. I feel that they believed there was a higher power that guided them, but they didn’t go to church or worship regularly. So following the Catholic doctrine, my mother took certain classes and converted to Catholicism before my parents could get married. This was in keeping with the sacrament of marriage. Nonetheless they eventually divorced, which the Catholic Church frowns upon. Now days my mother does not practice any form of Christianity and my father attends a Methodist church. Shortly after birth I was baptized into the Catholic …show more content…
Yet, due to mainstream culture, the modern war on religion, and the many different types of denominations I feel nervous about trying to learn more about Christianity, due to some form of harassment. I have seen several good people rebuked and look upon as an outsider, because they were vocal about their faith and religion. Because of this reason I am glad that I have to take this class. It gives me an opportunity to learn more about the church in a structured environment, plus it might help me find my way and get over this mental road block. Additionally, I am now married to a woman who says that she believes that there is a God, but her actions are that of an atheist. I have tried to get her interested in Christianity; however, I have been unsuccessful in doing so. So in a way one could say that I have somewhat lost my way. While I have never completely lost my faith, I still don’t try as hard as I should to better serve and to learn more about

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success.
