Introduction After reading chapter two of ‘Good to Great’ by Collins Jim, I was able to realize why I came to a stall in my last job as well as what skills I need to work on in order to grow as an individual and leader. In the chapter ‘Level 5 Leadership’ Jim Collins uses a chart to use as a reference when assessing yourself as the type of leader you are. This tool allowed me to reflect on what strengths I have but also what is needed of me to grow into the next level of a leader and allow me to be best utilized by my company. This chapter has led me to question whether or not I see a future for myself in my previous job but also has shown me I do have significant qualities that make a great leader, it’s up to oneself to reach the next step. Experience…

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

We all have ideas of the type of people we “think” we are, but when you take an assessment full of questions and see your results you get an overall view of the person you are. For personal and professional reasons this assessment has helped me determined which direction I can go as a person and as a leader. It really answered many questions I had about myself and why I think the way I do and act the way I do. As stated in prior in my paper understanding myself as a leader is the key to becoming an effective leader. The assessments are mere frameworks to follow when leading my team.…

Self-assessment is crucial in effective leadership. One might become so engrained in their own ways that they forget to check themselves for insufficiencies or look for places to improve. Effective leaders are not afraid of criticism and look to assessment tools to help improve themselves and their team. I took self-assessment quizzes on proactivity, charisma, task orientation, ethical behavior, and meaningful work. After assessing myself, I hope to within the next year and a half become more proactive, be charismatic witout being cocky, become more organized, think more ethically in individual situations, and help those around me find meaning in their work.…

I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…
