As my little brother and I grew up things got very intense at home. My older brother and sister got in so many physical fights and my dad would get in them so he would stop them. I always made sure my little brother wasn’t around this environment because I didn’t want this to have a negative effect on him. If he was around I would put him in a room and cover his ears so he wouldn’t hear anything. Eventually the cops and social workers got involved and my older brother ended up in foster care. The social workers believed my little brother and my life were in danger. Couple days later my sister ended up in a mental hospital because she was cutting herself. My mom ended up being depressed and my dad wouldn’t be home until late at night. My little brother was only in kindergarten and my parents weren’t paying much attention to us. It angered me that they did this but since that happened I would go home straight from school and made sure my little brother ate and did his homework. I made sure he was on top of his school work and that he never had bad grades. Now he asks about colleges and which would suit him best to pursue his dream. Junior year was is when I started taking interest in science because I started volunteering in the hospitals. Anatomy taught me how our body functions and how all these little things make us up. I find it amazing how if one little thing stops functioning right then it can cause other things to stop functioning also. What caught my attention in the hospitals was seeing all these premature babies on machines that were keeping them alive. I couldn’t believe at a young stage life all these babies were already suffering. I had the chance to feed one of those babies through a feeding tube with the help of a neonatal nurse. This is when I realized that I wanted to dedicate my time to help these babies survive so they can continue on growing. I always wanted to be a nurse but I never knew what kind or why until I started volunteering in the community hospital nearby. I enjoy spending time with little kids because they are strong, so innocent and I like helping them so I find it a great opportunity to work as a neonatal nurse because they are surrounded by all these babies fighting to stay
