Personal Identity Should Be Shaped By Ideology

Personal identity is the idea that individuals have of themselves as a unique individual. Ideology is a set of principles or ideas that explains the world that we live in and also an individual’s place within it. Identity and ideology is related because an ideology could influence an individual’s personal identity. An individual might decide to embrace a certain ideology due to those ideologies being similar to what their own beliefs and values about the world are. Once an individual embraces a certain ideology, this may lead them to re-examine their own lives and adjust accordingly. In Canada, you have the right to freely express yourself but that does not mean you can do anything. By having ideologies in place, it helps individuals to fully understand how a person should act in society so society is running smoothly and with peace. If for examples, individuals decided to act however they want in society, society would not run smoothly and mostly be in chaos. Individuals have different beliefs and values and that is understandable but if individuals did not have an ideology saying to respect other individual’s beliefs and values, individuals would create chaos to prove which individual’s beliefs and values is true. An example of this happening in this day and age is Islamic State. The terrorist group is on a mission to create a Muslim world basically and is denying to accept other religions, beliefs and values.
