Taking charge of my own health.
When it comes to my own health, I am the one responsible for making things happen. I have multiple goals for the three important areas of my overall health that I want to and will accomplish to help add years to my life and make my well-being much better.

Hormonal issues have caused some weight gain.
I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which can lead to weight gain due to hormonal imbalances. Managing body weight through regular exercise and a healthy diet alongside the medication prescribed to help balance hormones can help keep the symptoms of PCOS under control (WebMD 2014). I am an autistic adult who went through various phases as a child where I wouldn’t speak to anyone and would avoid people. However, I wanted to make friends but when I tried to get myself to say “hi,” I couldn’t get it to happen and I’d walk away frustrated so I gave up on trying for a while. As I got older my social skills got a little better. According to The National Institute of Mental Health (2016) people with autism have ongoing social problems that include difficulty interacting and communicating with others. However, I have broken through and gained relationships with others before and keep up with them through social media. Social media has helped me stay in touch with others in other places I have been and it makes me happy to see the pictures of them and their families. I haven’t made any friends here on Okinawa yet, but I really haven’t put myself out there to do so. By putting myself out there I mean by way of talking to others or even volunteering at events on island.
