Summer Rewind
I set three original goals for the course at the beginning of a semester. They were: to become a better listener, to write engaging speeches that will make my audience want to keep listening, and to become more comfortable speaking in front of an audience. The goal of becoming a better listener was a goal I knew I would really have to work at. Throughout the semester I really tried to focus in and eliminate all other distractions around me so I could focus on the speech I was listening to. I knew my goal of becoming more comfortable in front of an audience would be a little challenging since we did not always have a live audience. I always tried to picture an audience in front of me so that my tone would be more conversational

Through the feedback, I received multiple comments that my speech had a good flow and organization, so I made sure to keep that aspect of my speech the same. In all the comments, it was suggested that I incorporate more statistics to deem myself more credible. With this feedback, I added at least one more statistic to each main point. I also received feedback to add more personal examples. I thought this was a great point, because sharing my own experiences and how this has actually pertained to my life would be a great addition to keep my audience engaged and keep their credibility. All of this feedback really helped me to streamline and tweak my speech to make it even better before I gave my final persuasive …show more content…
I really focused on using good visual aids because I think they really keep the audience engaged and interested. There are a lot of things I did well on this assignment that show my growth throughout the course, but I know that there are things I need to continue to work on as well.
Throughout the past two months, I think my comfort with public speaking and my speaking skills in general have really improved. My first goal for this course was to become a better listener. This course was a great opportunity to work on my listening skills because I had to listen to the speeches of people in my group as well as the examples speeches we were given to watch. At the beginning, I found myself losing interest quickly and it was tough to give my full attention. As the course progressed it became much easier to listen attentively, especially because we were looking for key thing to offer

After watching my speech on video I recognized several things that beforehand I believed I had done well, and upon watching the speech, did do very well. Firstly was my organization, but mainly my introduction and main points. Both of these had all aspects covered and were easy to notice during the speech. Secondly I thought I did very well with my volume, rate, and vocal variety. These verbal delivery attributes came off very well in my speech and I was very happy to see that I could still execute these aspects.…

However, in this speech I did a much better job talking with my hands than in any other of my speeches. WEAKNESSES Just like how I had plenty of strengths, there are definitely still things I need to work on. My speech would have gone so much better if I was better organized and practiced more. The information I included was really good, however I just needed to add more and organize it better.…

One strength of our speech was we were able to convey the information vividly. I took some of the suggestions about using figurative language and painting a picture for the audience when I mentioned a movie example. A difficulty we had since the speech was a technical topic was trying to incorporate a relevant entertaining part to the speech but we had several examples to keep the audience interested incorporated in the story as we thought about the audience age group and the pop culture references they would understand. Although our speech was comprehensible and had a very strong visual aid aspect to it we missed out on some of the points that Eleanor Longden a Ted talk speaker who gave a similar speech on Schizophrenia excelled on. Her ability to give extemporaneous speech was far above ours, while we used note cards she was able to talk to her audience without anything to refer back to.…

After everyone watches themselves give a speech they have things that they would change. Once I evaluated my persuasion speech I noticed a few things. After completing the final speech, I’ve learned multiple tips of what to do from the previous speeches. The topic was very appropriate for the occasion. Reason being is because this speech was dedicated to the one who I admire and appreciate, which is my grandmother. The topic was appropriate for the audience because I gave them great detail on how my grandmother cared for me and how she comforted me in situations. She has shaped me into the person I am today.…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

After reviewing my critique forms and grade sheets for perspectives on informative speech I have come to the conclusion that I am a more charismatic person than I thought I was and it made me think about how differently I perceive myself from how others did. My strengths included my great vocal quality and how I am able to maintain a confident yet enthusiastic composure as I was speaking, even though I was shaking and fumbling my words on the inside. Also how my facial expressions and tone was humorous and kept people engaged in my stories and wanting to hear more about me. I shared my childhood story as my attention-getter because it described what kind of person that I am and i'm not different from anyone else and I connected with my audience…
