Personal Experiences Of A Teacher At Worland High School

Superior Essays
If you’ve ever walked down the halls of Worland High School in the last couple of years then you are probably familiar with a certain teacher who has been mesmerizing and inspiring students for years. This teacher, like many teachers at Worland High, has the ability to transform students from simple minded balls of clay, to Michelangelo sculpted philosophers. The teacher about whom I’m talking of is not only a teacher, but a doctor which is even more reason to believe everything that he says. This is, of course, is Dr. Tim McGee, English teacher at Worland High School. Dr. McGee has been teaching at our high school for quite some time now and has been posing students questions without any answers for just as long. If you walk down the hallways …show more content…
McGee is always being talked about. Personally, Dr. McGee has always puzzled me a little more than anyone else; for instance the way that he dresses compared to other teachers, Dr. McGee will come to school every day wearing a button up shirt with corresponding pants and a white undershirt. You know that he’s wearing an undershirt because he leaves at least the top button of his shirt unsnapped, showing off his white undershirt and his globe necklace. Now I’m not saying that he dresses inappropriately, but usually if you aren’t a shop teacher or a female teacher, you would wear a tie every day. I will admit though that being in as small of a district as we are, there isn’t as much hostility towards a certain dress code for teachers, as long as it’s appropriate, that …show more content…
McGee dresses that causes, especially, me some puzzlement is how he dresses for our North West College 1010 English class. He shows up in his usually button up shirt, with white undershirt beneath, but this time with a baseball cap on. It’s almost like he goes home, gets undressed and then gets redressed with different shirt and pants and then puts on a cap and comes to class. The best part is that since it’s after school hours he not only wears the cap through class, but also has his shirt unbuttoned even more, with at least two buttons undone at this point. Honestly it’s kind of nice when he dresses like that for our college class because it makes it feel a little more personal and homey, rather than like we are actually at college being taught by someone who has better things to do and would rather not even be in the classroom, but doing research. I thank him for finding a way to make college feel a little less

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

In the class Burmeister teaches differently than the way he learned, by allowing the students to create a sports team and to promote that team, like a person who has a job in marketing. Besides teaching business, Burmeister is very involved in the athletic department here at Prospect. Burmeister coaches Junior Varsity Football and Track and Field, he also sometimes plays basketball with fellow teachers as well. When he plays, he might be known by some teachers as "No Pants Lance." On that day, Burmeister simply forgot to bring his good pants and good shirt, so for the entire day, Burmeister taught wearing shorts and a not proper shirt.…

Ever since Gale Ranch opened, there has been a school dress code. Gale Ranch students melted into a pool of anger and are now breaking it. Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

Administration such as Senator Stephenson must immediately send innocent children to the office for this ridiculous blue-coated “Dress-code Violation” attire and pressing suspension to those who wish not to humiliate and embarrass themselves throughout the school day. I say it is downright deliberate intent to embarrass every student in every way possible by their operation of throwing the “Blue Suit” upon us. But certainly, from here on out, Westlake High School Dress-code shall no longer be enforced. We, students of Westlake High School now consider ourselves free to wear as we wish. He has refused to pass other laws on how teachers shouldn’t loosely teach us students without the intent of us learning something, yet he’d rather enforce something less important in a school atmosphere; an interrupted right to wear what we solemnly desire to express ourselves.…

In The Sexism of School Dress Codes, Li Zhou organizes her article by informing the audience about the negative effects school dress codes may have in females, transgenders, and nonconforming students. Li Zhou strongly believes school 's dress code policies need to be updated since the policies that currently exist are bias and enforced in a way that humiliates the student. The current policies create an expectation that women are responsible for unwanted things that occur to them, when it may not be their fault. Dress codes should also be updated because they current ones, don 't take into consideration students who may be for the LGBT community or students who may simply not want to conform to the norm. Maggie Sunseri of Versailles, Kentucky was simply a middle school student when she first realized, her school 's dress code was bias towards females.…

Students see teachers as authority figures in and outside of the classroom. At a young age, students expect and assume that everything taught in the classroom is a fact. This is the case for Tommy and his classmates who have so far been raised with a narrow mindset and are not used to learning about things that don’t have a definitive answer. An example of this mindset is when Miss Ferenczi allowed for six times eleven to equal sixty-eight. The students would not accept any other reasoning other than six times eleven equaling sixty-six.…
