I couldn’t breath. I felt I’m in sauna. I was so shocked. This is what I felt when I went out at the airport at Hanoi, Vietnam. It was so hot and humid that I couldn’t breath at all. I thought I couldn’t be shocked than now ever in my life. However, that did happen in my life. There is a Math Olympiad in Hanoi every year that all the international schools in Hanoi participate. Teachers from each school brought up with the one set of question. For every set, each team was ranked. A team that placed 1st place the most win the olympiad just like the Olympic. Each school brings two teams of five members. There is a award for each individual teams and for the school. When I was 11th grader, I got nominated by Ms. El my math teacher. 7 days before …show more content…
10 nominated students and 3 math teacher combined together and talked about the teams. Some people said that smarter students should be in a one team so one of our team can get the medal. Others said that each team should be balanced to get a school award. Since more people were prefer the first idea, we all decided to follow it. Than the bigger problem came up. Who should be the ‘smarter students’? Students who took higher level of class? Students who had higher grade than others? Or just up to teacher’s choice? It was hard to find the solution at this point. Since I was in the highest class of the members and desired to win the competition, I hoped the team would be composed with the students with the higher class. However, world doesn’t go as I hope. Unlucky, only one teacher agreed with my idea. This was because other people also wanted to get school award After an hour of arguing, we finally decided to separate team as a Korean style-educated students and non Korean style-educated students. The reason was because students who has less conflicts of opinion. I was …show more content…
I was guessing we did 3rd or 2nd place. The host of the Olympiad called 3rd place for the team. It wasn’t me. I got nervous at this point. But I didn’t loose my hope. ‘It’ll be fine, I might did a 2nd place.’ I thought. After the 3rd place team got there trophy and medals, he called the 2nd place team. It wasn’t me, either. I had a lot of mixed emotions. Most likely, I felt futility. ’I put all I got, but I still failed. Oh god, what’s wrong with me.’ While 2nd place team do their ceremony, I was looking for exit so I can just go home fast. Suddenly, I heard the drum sound. The host was grab a mike and said “The final winner of this year’s Olympiad is…. St. Paul team 1! Come up to the front stage please.” I got shock. This one was bigger than one that I felt at the airport. ‘Wait, what? Team 1? That’s my team. Seriously? I am a champion? Did he call a wrong team? Or did I heard wrong one?’ However, unlike my thoughts, my team was the champion. I was so happy. I yelled, danced, and laughed like I’m a crazy. It was really hard to hide my happiness at the

Walking on to the Lucas Oil turf as a Carmel Marching Greyhound for awards at Grand National finals after an exhilarating performance of “What a Tangled Web We Weave” was a feeling of pure accomplishment. As a sophomore, I had done this once before, but this time was different. The whole band knew we were in the running for the national title. Avon and Broken Arrow were our biggest competitors. Earlier in the season we won ISSMA state, so coming into nationals we knew we had a pretty good chance of being exceptionally good.…

I wished I was playing out in that summer heat, this felt like I was being cooked in an oven. I breathe in again, more dry air.…

I joined my school’s wrestling team during my junior year of high school and went into this new environment with 0 years of prior training and 16 years of “Girls don’t really wrestle”. I was determined to excel during my first wrestling experience to challenge the skepticism that surrounded girl wrestlers. With newfound hope, I went into my match thinking, “How could I possibly lose to someone half my size?”…

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck. My palms would sweat, my voice would tremble, and it took all the strength I could muster to overcome my irrational fears. I only had a small, albeit close knit group of friends due to my introverted ways.…
