Which is simply a listed schedule with dates and times telling us the vents that we will participate in band and when we will have band practices. The person who is in authority of these emails is again our band director. This is because he knows all scheduled information for the previous, present and following weeks before anyone else knows because he schedules events for the marching band. I played the clarinet for seven years and began marching band in ninth grade solely because it was required. I didn’t care for it so much and therefore only pursued it for one year after that. Yet, I did enjoy symphonic band because I would prefer to sit on stage, in decent clothing, with air conditioning or heat, and have the opportunity to at least watch the football games on Friday night. In my opinion, it 's a lot more educating too because symphonic band allows students to become more musically inclined and demonstrate their talent individually. While marching band students learn memorization and coordination skills as a group.…

When I saw the flyer for color guard my eighth-grade year I was perplexed as it didn't specify what color guard was other than an exciting activity that lets you be apart of marching band. I was skeptical that I would actually like color guard but at the first clinic, I knew I had found a family and exciting activity to pursue. Watching the upperclassmen toss rifles, sabers, and flags with such ease and confidence made me excited to learn and achieve that level of confidence. This year will be my fourth year in marching band, I am still in Color Guard and it is easily one of the activities I’m most passionate about. My love to perform on the marching field takes away the anxiety I usually have, throughout the years my confidence has risen…

I make sure everything is in order and help organize all our events with our director. Because I am drum major I have been able to help our band achieve the best they can and show it to our community by performing for them at their events throughout the year. With being section leader, I am able to help my clarinet section succeed, learn, and have fun by answering any questions and helping them with anything that is needed.…

Extracurricular Activities: • Westwood Marching Band – For the past four years, I’ve dedicated every August to participate in this “creative story of music and movement”, to make something quite special in today’s world. Spanning 15 weeks every year, this activity pulls avid music makers together to give life to a visual aspect of music that is often untold in traditional concert bands. Over five hundred and ten hours a year, our body of three hundred members bond, find purpose together, and support each other through any test of life. It’s hard to put into words, but it is something that I would never change in my high school experience.…

To be in a marching band, one has to almost become one with the band. The instrument played is not a single aspect, but a part of a much larger whole that must be comfortable and confident together. When I first joined the band, I was not one of the more comfortable and confident people that fit in with everyone else. Most all band members are loud and proud of who they are, compared to myself, who always hid behind others and hated being the center of attention. However, almost everyone has that moment when they realize that everybody else is just as self conscious, just as scared, and just as awkward as they are.…
