My hurricane experience was frustrating. Irma's arrival resulted in a mass power outage that made me realize how dependent we, as a society, are on electricity. Blessings we take for granted like light, air conditioning, a working stove, a refrigerator, cable, internet, charged phones, and other appliances were all made useless by the storm. My neighbors and some family members began to panic and complain. My family had to make use of battery powered devices and wood for cooking. Can you imagine a life without or with limited electricity? This is the case for survivors and generations that came forth after the earthquake that shook Haiti in 2010.
