I’ve experienced bits and pieces of stress in planning things and frustration when things don’t go the way I want. I think it’s a big adjustment to feel comfortable with where you are, and to be “forced” into a new environment. These last two months are a testament as to why it is important to have hope. I think it’s rather easy to get “lost in the sauce”, especially when your trying everything you want to do well. But it’s important not cave in. Giving myself something to look forward to keeps me going. Even when I know I don’t have everything figured out, if I give myself a goal to work towards it steers me in the direction. I think it 's important to remember that not everything will go the way you want to. However, it 's important to celebrate your small victories and enjoy your journey to where you want to go and that 's where hope really shines.
I know my strengths lie in me being engaged my learning. I find the learning in the classroom interesting and rewarding. I can find ways to connect concepts from various classes and interrelate topics into my daily life. For example, the racial profiling concept of my Race & Ethnicity ties well with my Multicultural Education class. In turn, what I learn in my class ties well into the election. It is easy to take things in my classes and to use them in my discussions inside and outside of the classroom. Unique events happen around the semester that further my exploration. One of the highlights of my inquiry outside of class was at Lutheran Higher Education. During the Lutheran Studies Conference, it was argued that PLU has a "narrative" (essentially shared culture, norms, and experiences) that fits only a specific type of social group (White-oriented culture) and that does not reflect the whole PLU community. There 's a counter narrative that appears, including students of color and different backgrounds have their own narratives that are equally as important and valued as those who have a common-themed narrative. They state that PLU can do a better job of being inclusive to other races and cultures and that promoting and embracing our Diversity can make the community at PLU
