Have you ever experienced something new and it end up changing you somehow? Well that is what happened with me when I decided to join the Canaries as an afterschool activity that had interested me in 6th grade. I had initially just joined to spend time but then they became more than just a team I hung out with two times a week to run, they became like a second family to me. Soon enough I changed to a better club called NJ Stallions and they offer to pay more than half of the tuition for me. My parents and I were so happy to hear this because the tuition to play for the club was 2,500 per year and I only had to pay 700 which included the uniform . While I was in that club doors started to open up for me . For example in that club I got called to go to a national odp camp in Florida which is highly selected players only.…

Leading that group of people has taught me how to effectively participate in a team. Sometimes people need a leader to tell them what to do and where to go. However, there are times where other people have better ideas than my own and it is important to listen and to acknowledge those ideas. The most important part of any team is figuring out how to work together as a team, which means that everyone needs to understand how their strengths and weaknesses help the team. Relay for Life has helped me learn how to participate in a strong team by knowing what is needed from…

Accountability, unity, and intentionality are fundamental elements of a successful team. All three of these elements are interdependent on each other, yet are significant on their own. For these elements to work, each member of a team must depend on each other’s contribution, but not rely on one member to do all the work. As well, an intentional goal must be set for all members to unify the same mentality. In my own experience with the Buckeye Twirl baton team, we fail to perform as a team and work as individuals.…

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…
