Clinical Psychology Personal Statement

I began college interested in psychology mainly because I was extremely influenced by the work my uncle does as a school psychologist. But while I was in the middle of my third year, a friend and co-worker of mine had lost her fifteen-year-old brother to suicide. I tried in any way I could to help her, but it was impossible. I thought about the situation for months, what was going through his mind, and what I could have done to prevent it from ever happening. This experience lead me to want to learn more about human behavior, so I could do everything I can to prevent a situation similar from happening. I decided to take careers in psychology class the following semester and realized I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. The …show more content…
I have been an assistant manager in my current and previous career. I am able to maintain the best standards of customer service during high-volume operations, excellent communication skills, secure a loyal clientele with appreciation and enjoyable interactions, as well has resolved complaints promptly and in a professional manner. These experiences have indicated to me that, I have a passion of working with and helping people. Similarly, I have taken several classes that would greatly benefit me in the clinical psychology program at Clark University. Abnormal psychology, introduction to clinical counseling, and intimate relations have helped me aim to the point where I want to be, in psychology. I have also taken multiple classes to better understand the research aspect of the field, such as experimental psychology, advanced statistics, and sensation perception and action. These courses are what aided me to the research side of the degree. I also had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant for a semester in a writing for psychology course.
