The weight of opportunity has laid heavily on my shoulders since I began public school. My family encourages a hard work ethic that manifests into this compulsive need to succeed, to stand out from my peers. Consequently, when I began to display brightness and intelligence in my classes and through my grades, my family passed me a torch that had never been lit. By going to college, I would be a first-generation student. My father and mother came from homes where dreams were constrained by budgets and only hard work was what put food on the table. Thus, my parents buckled down and worked their fingers to the bone to give me the honest chance of pursuing what they never thought possible.
